This is a great family outing for a Sunday morning. Lunel is a little medieval town half way between Nîmes and Montpellier.
It holds several markets (covered and outdoors) during the week, but the best moment to go is on a Sunday morning as you will be able to enjoy at the same time, the flower market, the big retail market and the covered market. All this creates of course a nice buzzing atmosphere in the town.
Drink a pastis, a beer or a menthe-à-l’eau at one of the terrasses of the cafés while enjoying the live music (from mid-March to mid-November), stroll around the pretty little streets and shops, buy a straw hat and basket for the beach from the retail market, and go home with a big pot of fresh basil from the flower market.
If you have children, a little run around in the playgrounds of the nice shady Jean Hugo parc will be a perfect way to finish the morning.
You can then go home for lunch with all the nice food you have bought from the covered market or choose to eat at a pretty little terrasse of one of the Lunel restaurants.
